Inspired Action
December 21, 2014 1 Comment on Inspired ActionIn the past, planning for the year has been something that I felt was mostly a waste of time. It was like New Year’s resolutions and wanting to lose weight. There might be a flash of change initially, but never enough to change habits. The things I cared most about doing, I’d find a way to build in some accountability in order to force myself to stick with them until they became habit. For example, a group that played basketball every Sunday morning to force me into shape. I felt a sense of commitment because they’d be short players if I didn’t show up. Another example, I made a commitment to getting healthier by joining Weight Watchers and that built in a commitment to track what I ate and to meeting every week on a scale.
For a self-proclaimed big-picture guy, I always struggled with annual planning. I love to push myself and I learned in the corporate world that it was often worse to declare stretch goals and not make them than use simple goals that you can make in your sleep. At review time, it seemed better to check the box than try to explain how much you learned by failing to achieve a big goal. As I wrote above, I didn’t create a plan and stick to it throughout the year. As I worked with my coaches and mastermind groups this year, I began to realize that I had always been missing something. In most cases, I never connected the various personal and business goals. I also tended to put goals that put me ahead of the others in each category so I could win in the group rather than look at what would uniquely fit me. Mostly, I found that the money making goals ended up getting the most attention.
This year, I worked through several different methods and strategies to align all parts of my life into a comprehensive intention of changing my life for the better in all phases without it becoming overwhelming. A big part was picking a theme for 2015, complete with theme song. I also found focusing on one thing in each category that what would make me happy, healthy and wealthy to be great for true alignment since the wealthy goal was last.
It has been a crazy ride since launching The Entrepreneurs’ Collaborative Network in June 2014. I’ve self-published my first book, starting blogging on a somewhat regular basis, started an email newsletter, recorded by first teleseminar, launched a matching Facebook page and just recently added a matching Twitter account. I’m close on my first YouTube and iTunes channels. I have started to fill my business coaching individual coaching time slots and have a plan for my first group program. It is exciting to being doing something creative and totally terrifying to have nothing to sell but myself.
In my effort to clearly communicate and build in accountability, here are my proclamations for 2015:
Theme: Inspired Action
Theme Song: Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves
Runner up theme song: Just Wait by Blues Traveler
Theme Color: Dark Green (for growth)
Theme Scents (DoTerra): Frankincense (connection), Clary Sage (clarity), Wild Orange (abundance), Balance blend (balance), InTune blend (focus).
Expanding the theme idea and playing with it for week, helped clarify my thoughts around happy, healthy and wealthy goals for 2015.
Happy: Family vacation in Kauai for Christmas 2015
Healthy: Build up to running 10K by end of 2015
Wealthy: Fill individual and group coaching slots to the tune of $20K/month income
These now feel real after completing the annual goals, breaking them down into quarterly, then monthly, then weekly and then weekly goals while adding in strategies and tracking. Most importantly, I’m excited about all these ideas and tangible pieces coming together where I have confidence that I will keep on track or at least find my way back when I inevitably wander off track.
Have a wonderful 2015!!!
